Free Prom Dresses

Homecoming and senior prom dresses can make quite a dent in the wallet, but two North Tonawanda women want to change that. Brenda Hoffman and Cheryl McMahon created NT Prom Boutique to collect gently used formal dresses and gowns and redistribute them to girls free of charge.

Having had daughters graduate from NT High School, the two women know how expensive prom dresses can be. They also know that there are girls in North Tonawanda who cannot afford to buy a dress, but aren’t eligible for dress giveaway programs in other counties.

“We started talking about how some of the girls in NT who couldn't afford a dress for the prom went to Erie County to get one, but were turned away because they were from Niagara County,” said Mrs. McMahon “We  wondered if we could start a dress collection for our NT girls and decided to try it.”

The boutique accepts donations and has about 150 dresses and gowns on hand. The majority of the gowns and formal dresses have only been worn once. Looking ahead to prom season in late May, the boutique will start distributing dresses in April. Appointments to try on dresses can be made by contacting Mrs. Hoffman or Mrs. McMahon. Photos of some of the dresses can be seen by visiting the NTPromBoutique facebook page.
