Second Spotlight Series Session Tackles Internet Safety
The North Tonawanda School Social Workers recently held their second Spotlight Series discussion at the Middle School.
The guest speaker was Kathy Gust, Program Director of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The NCMEC serves as the nation’s resource on the issues of missing and sexually exploited children. It provides information and resources to law enforcement, parents and children, including child victims, as well as other professionals. Gust discussed personal safety for children, including social networking, bullying, “sexting,” and posting videos and photos online. She discussed tips for parents and guardians to minimize potential risks and setting reasonable rules.
After her presentation, Ms. Gust answered questions from the audience.
Current North Tonawanda High School students who attended this session earned credit for community service hours.
The date and time for the next Spotlight Series presentation will be announced soon.
