Registration Facts

Things to know about registration in the North Tonawanda City School District:

  • New York State law requires that only residents of the North Tonawanda City School District are able to attend the district’s schools.  Part of the North Tonawanda zip code is actually included in the Niagara Wheatfield and Starpoint Central School Districts.  If you have a question  regarding your address and whether it falls within the North Tonawanda City School District boundaries, please feel free to call our Central Registration Office line at 716-807-3568.
     
  • If you are interested in registering your child in the North Tonawanda City School District, the registration packets are online or in print at our Administration Building, located at 176 Walck Road, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
     
  • The main pieces of information required for registration are:  An original birth certificate for each child, along with two pieces of documentation verifying residency.  The registration packet does specify the proper documentation required for residency.
     
  • If the child does not live with both parents listed on the birth certificate, the parent registering the child must provide a copy of the most recent custody/residence/visitation court order. Child Support Orders usually do not specify the information needed.
     
  • If a child lives with someone other than a parent, custody/guardianship information and court papers are required at the time of registration. The New York State Education commissioner requires that a non-parent in the district must financially support and have “total and permanent custody and control” of a child to be eligible to register for school under New York State law and district policy.
     
  • If you or your children are not United States citizens, you will need to present additional documentation as part of the registration process and provide the date on which you entered the United States.
     
  • If you move out of the district over the summer, your child cannot return to the North Tonawanda City School District the following September, unless you  move back into the district.
     
  • If you move out of the district before the end of the first school semester, you must withdraw your child(ren) from the North Tonawanda City School District and enroll them in the public school district where you reside (or the private school of your choice).
     
  • If you move out of the district after the beginning of second semester in January, only the Superintendent is able to permit your child to continue in the North Tonawanda City School District.  This special request must be made in writing.
