Transition from the elementary classroom with a desk to a 9-period schedule with a locker is a major change. Many students have difficulty getting to the right class with the right materials on time. Proper use of the color-coded binders can assist in this transition. Each teacher keeps a master binder in the classroom for students to refer to for organization. Students need to plan out when they have opportunity to stop at the locker, as they don’t have time between every class.
The school planner can also be a great help. Encourage your child to write down the days of the cycle for pool or gym class which helps to fit in visits back to their locker to pick up materials.
