Second graders will be given spelling words each week starting in September.  There will be 15 words students are required to learn each week.  The 3 challenge words will be counted as BONUS words up and including to the month of December.  After January 1st the challenge words WILL BE COUNTED as part of the normal spelling words.  I believe this is a nice way to ease students into more difficult words without overwhelming them.  The spelling words are choosing specifically to help students excel in their reading and writing skills and are appropriately chosen for this developmental age. 

The Speller's Choice Menu is designed to help student's independently study for their spelling words at home.  Each month I will send home the monthly speller choice menu in paper form.  Students may do as many activities as they would like each week to receive extra credit on that weeks spelling test.  Each activity done is equivalent to one point extra credit.  Follow the instructions on the Menu for other directions.  These activities are optional and fun!
