The flu is spread from person to person in coughs and sneezes or when a person touches respiratory droplets on another person or an object and then touches their own mouth or nose (or someone else’s mouth or nose) before washing their hands.Students with “Influenza-like Illness” should stay home when they are sick.
Students should stay home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medication. One can reduce the chances of spreading or catching the flu by:
- Washing hands often with soap and water, especially after sneezing or coughing.
- Using alcohol-based hand sanitizers to clean hands if soap and water are not available.
- Covering nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Coughing or sneezing into your sleeve if no tissue is available.
