COVID-19 School Closure

  • PLEASE NOTE: Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered all New York State schools closed for the rest of the academic year to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Therefore, the North Tonawanda City School District remains closed until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates throughout the closure.

    New grade reporting information:

    1. Numeric grades earned by students up to Friday, March 13, will be used to determine and finalize numeric 3rd quarter grades. No grades for review assignments provided during our "pause" between March 16 and April 17 were collected, nor will they be included in the calculation of 3rd marking period grades. Students who may owe make-up work assigned from the start of the 3rd marking period through March 13 have until Friday, April 24 to submit that work to their teachers. Contact your teachers if you have concerns about make-up work you may owe.

    2. 4th marking period starts on Monday, April 20, at which time teachers will begin delivering new instruction assignments/assessments where grades may be recorded using a pass (P) approach with additional designations for mastery level (M) work that is equal to or greater than 85%, and Incomplete (Inc) work. NO NUMERIC GRADES WILL BE RECORDED DURING MARKING PERIOD 4.

    3. Final course grades will be determined by teachers using a general, qualitative approach as opposed to a numeric approach, based on the same pass / fail grading system previously described for use during marking period 4.

    4. For high school students in grades 9 through 11, and 8th grade students enrolled in high school credit-bearing courses, final course grades earned during the 2019-20 school year will not be used in the calculation of student rank. This does not apply to current 12th grade students as rank was previously calculated and finalized, consistent with existing District policy following the close of 2nd semester this year.
