The NYSPHSAA is proud to recognize student athletes who excel in the classroom. Too often student athletes are only recognized for their performance in the gym or on the field. The Section VI Scholar Athlete program (Individual and Team) was developed to recognize the hard work that student athletes do off the field.

Tom Hewitt Sports Award Dinner

This year’s North Tonawanda nominees are Jacob Clare and Emily Slominski. The dinner is named in honor of Thomas E. Hewitt, a man keenly interested in sports who believed in active sports participation by young people. Each year the Board of Associates of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital sponsors the event honoring outstanding male and female scholar-athletes from nine local high schools. The dinner took place at Niagara County Community College on Sunday, May 5. This award is based on academics, athletics, community service and a interview done by the judging panel.
